HEMINGWAY'S BIMINI AN ECOLOGICAL TRAGEDY UNFOLDS ON BIMINI IN THE BAHAMAS:
Bimini’s fishery is the keystone of its economy: the people of Bimini depend on the fishery for food and income, as well as the natural beauty and bounty of the island to attract tourists, an economic mainstay. Bimini's North Sound, who's shoreline is fringed entirely with mangroves, was supposed to have been preserved as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) where the eggs of fish, conch, shrimp, lobsters and many other living things could grow up into adulthood without being disturbed. Ernest Hemingway loved natural areas and hated development. In fact, he stopped going to Bimini in the late 1930's because he thought it was "getting too built up". In spite of this Capo uses Hemingway in his brochure, has purchased the endorsement of a Hemingway descendent, and has considered naming part of his resort "Hemingway Heaven". Why was Mr. Capo given a permit to build the Bimini Bay Resort when most of the site was a mangrove forest designated as the #1 priority in all of the Bahamas to become a Marine Protected Area? Do something about it! Write a letter now! Bimini Bay Resort and Casino, Bimini Bay Resort, and Bimini Bay as referenced on this
