PLAN FOR DESTRUCTION -- BIMINI BAY RESORT
The current position of Mr. Capo and his supporters in the government is that they have
"drastically scaled down the Bimini Bay development to something much smaller than that
approved by the previous government of former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham. Further,
they say that it’s now "environmentally sound because of these reductions.
What they neglect to say is that in response to earlier environmental concerns Former
PM Ingraham himself had already scaled the project back in 1998 to only the west side
of North Sound (top diagram) and in fact the new government has re-authorized almost
the entire original project (bottom diagram) as of June 2004. Although PM Ingraham’s
reductions still left North Sound open to unacceptable dredging and destruction on the
west side, it was certainly less of a disaster than the new "environmentally sound"
plan.
The "scaled back" plan, according to available literature, simply involves building
fewer dwellings than originally called for on paper, but virtually all of the same land
will be
stripped and developed and all of the original dredging will take place. The middle
diagram was on display at Mr. Capo’s Bimini headquarters in July 2003.
